But listen.
I am not impressed with anybody taking a stand with the LGBT community against ISIS, if you’re not taking a stand with the LGBT community against politicians, preachers, and pundits who also try to silence, cause fear, or kill my LGBT friends.
It’s easy to take a stand against ISIS.
But…
ISIS isn’t the ones standing in pulpits telling my friends that God hates them, that God is angry at them, that they are disgusting, abominable, unwelcome.
ISIS isn’t the ones supporting legislature that invites increased discrimination, harassment, and silencing of my friends.
ISIS isn’t the ones boycotting companies that advocate for policies of equality.
ISIS isn’t the ones on Facebook talking about “love the sinner hate the sin” and “the homosexual lifestyle” and “what the Bible clearly says”.
ISIS isn’t using “gay” as an insult and anti-trans slurs as jokes and the lives and families of my LGBT friends as political talking points.
That’s on us. That’s in our churches, our state governments, our workplaces, our families.
If you don’t give a shit about how your religion and politics and cultural views silence, cause fear, and kill my LGBT friends but you want to take a bold stand against ISIS…
Maybe you aren’t looking for an opportunity to support the LGBT community as much as you’re just looking for another excuse to fear and hate the Muslim community.
As for me… I echo the talk radio hosts words, but I want to change a few of them:
The Republican party should know, my fellow Christians should know, my Facebook friends should know, my family should know… if you try to harm my LGBT brothers and sisters, you will need to come through me.
